From online love to happily ever after

Finding love online is the latest trend.
Gone are the days when men and women hovered around social events just to land that special someone. Today, you can find your missing rib online.
The advent of social media has made finding love less stressful. With just some loving clicks, beautiful pictures and sweet messages, you are sure to start off a relationship that might lead to the altar.
Even with all its attendant bad sides, many couples are hitting the altar after getting hooked on the various dating and social media sites.
These people shared their online meetings and stories with us.
Nkiru: I was smitten by his intelligence
I was never really interested in dating guys I met online because I thought they were all players out to deceive gullible ladies. Some men have tried talking me into dating them on some social media sites, but I wasn’t one made for such things. Or so I had thought.
One day, a guy sent me a message saying my friend told him about me. He went on and on about how he would love to meet me and find out things for himself because he had been told beautiful things about me. I shut him down immediately. He appeared like a player.
Months later, he sent me another message apologising if he offended me by telling me how much he wanted me, he even promised to do a skype chat with me if am still not convinced that he’s being honest with me.
He begged me to go out just once and if I don’t like him, he would not bother me again. I agreed and we met at an eatery. I was smitten by his intelligence and prospects. He wasn’t rich but he was decent.
This is actually my first serious relationship, and we are at almost a year now. Things are great; I’m so happy. This is my online love story.

Adekemi: His height attracted me to him
I signed up for online dating with a friend. I went on dates with a few guys, and it wasn’t good.
I was just not into it, and was about to quit, but then I came online one day to see a message from this guy with a really sweet, open face, and he was 6-foot-9, I was like, this can’t be real.
Two or three messages in, we found out that we live extremely close to each other, and we agreed to meet up. He texted me after four dates, saying that he wanted to slow down.
Once I realized that he’s the kind of person who says what he means and means what he says, I was so happy. We have been dating for over two years now and we are planning on getting married as soon as things settle for him financially.
Sometimes I think there’s a stigma about meeting online. People only talk of their bad experiences, but it’s not all bad. I met the love of my life online and we are still together.
Vivian: Things felt so right with him
I started online dating not necessarily because I really wanted to find a boyfriend; it was just me just wanting to go on dates because they were so much fun.

Edwin was the one who messaged me first, and initially I never got back to him. Then he messaged me again. So we set up the date but had to push it off a couple times. It wasn’t a priority, because I was seeing so many random people at that point.
About two months into things, we were eating dinner at a restaurant when I realized I was just so infatuated with him. We had been talking for hours, and it felt so right. That was the first moment when I wasn’t just going through the motions, as I had been on all those dates with other people.
That’s when I started shifting our discussions to getting serious about our relationship. He agreed with me. We will get married in three months time after being together for two years. I am happy I will spend the rest of my life with him. He knows how to love me. He’s my online miracle.
