Alicia Keys wins Amnesty `ambassador of conscience’ award 2017

Alicia Keys, famous United States singer and songwriter has won Amnesty International Ambassador of Conscience Award for 2017. The organization praised her long-term campaign on criminal justice reform, HIV and AIDS, gun violence and the global refugee crisis.

Amnesty International’s Secretary-General, Salil Shetty said in a statement on Thursday that 36-year old Keys was chosen because she has “inspired and campaigned for change on critical issues throughout her illustrious career.’’
Reacting to the award, talented Keys said the award was “one of the most proud moments of my life.’’ She said she was “driven to recognize the injustice in the world as well as the unfairness the inequality, the things that have to change, the ways that we as everyday people, all of us, have a part to play in that.’’

She further added that: “It encourages me to continue to speak out against injustice and use my platform to draw attention to the issues that matter to me.”Alicia Keys philanthropic work includes co-founding Keep a Child Alive (KCA), a non-profit organization providing treatment and care to children and families affected by HIV in Africa and India. In 2014, Keys also co-founded the We Are Here Movement , which seeks to mobilize and give young people a platform for demanding change.

Keys has been referred to as the Queen of R&B by various media outlets. In 2005, Time magazine listed her in their list of 100 most influential people because  “Her musicianship raises her above her peers. She doesn’t have to sample music’s past like a DJ scratching his way through a record collection; she has the chops to examine it, take it apart and create something new and personal with what she has found.”

Alicia Keys work has influenced many contemporary artists such as Bruno Mars and Adele. She remains a trailblazer in her chosen field.
