I hope African girls experience living independently before getting married
A Twitter user, Feminist Witch said that she wishes African girls would experience living independently before they get married.
This is her Tweet:
“I hope more African girls experience living independently before they get married. Paying rent for your apartment. Having hired help to cater to your needs, walking naked in your apartment, washing dishes to 70s disco music and complaining about the price of food.
Experiencing bliss, staying out late till 4am, crawling into your bed dead drunk knowing it’s your home and no one can say shit. Closing up your home for a week to go on a trip with the girls, having soirees in your home. Learning how to fix pipes, decorating your home and having sex on the kitchen counter.
It comes with its own problems, bills and Lord knows it hurts paying rent when you have been a freeloader all your life but by grace, its your home, all yours and no one can tell you shit.”
I agree with her. Young ladies should stop jumping from their parents home into marriage. They have to live independent lives so that they can go into with something.
You don’t go into marriage thinking it’s a poverty alleviation programme and when a man starts treating you poorly because he feels you have nowhere to go since you are financially dependent on him, you start crying everywhere.
Let’s do away with this mentality that ladies living alone, paying their bills, taking care of themselves and having fun is equal to promiscuity. That is how this society traps women.
Society tells young ladies not to live their lives freely. Ladies are reprimanded when they rent houses and buy cars for easy transportation. They are told that living comfortably will drive away suitors. This nonsense has to stop.
How many men do people tell that living large will drive away good wives from them? How many young guys do people police and tell not to live well so that they won’t scare potential wife materials away? None.
Young ladies should stop listening to the people who want them to jump into marriage without them living their lives first. This is why a lot of women are unhappy in their marriages and feel trapped.
It is important for more Nigerian ladies to experience living independently before they get married. I endorse this message. They should making marriage their all and all. Live free!
