According to a Twitter user, Chidi Okereke, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown people that weddings don’t have to be elaborate to make sense.

He said that the most important thing is two people in love getting married with their parents and close friends present instead of spending money on halls, vendors and big society wedding.

“COVID-19 pandemic has shown people that weddings don’t have to be elaborate. Just you, your wife, closest family and friends. The rest can join via zoom.

No stress of traveling, no renting of halls, or paying vendors that will give you high blood pressure. No aso ebi, just the main thing…two becoming one. I love it.

People who are saying elaborate weddings are a choice are being disingenuous. Of course, everything is a choice but when society normalizes and makes something the standard, is it still a choice? Do you really choose what you are doing or you are doing what is expected of you?

If you want a big wedding, please go right ahead. It is a very important day and if you cannot afford it, make it as fabulous as possible. I’m only just happy that people see that unions are possible without straining their pockets. And I know that more people will opt for super simple weddings from now on.”

Over the last four months, couples and wedding vendors have come up with new ways of working together to plan weddings such as virtual consultations or at-home cake tastings, and the same can be said for the ceremony.

For some attendees, watching over Zoom, will likely continue long past the pandemic. The reality is that weddings and events as we know it has changed forever and it will take time for things to go back to normal.

This is the best time for couples who want an intimate wedding to get married without going through too much stress.
