Some Nigerian women subtly promote patriarchy. They are the ones who rise up against other women who dare to challenge patriarchy.

These women who love to be seen as virtuous, humble and pious, fight and shame women who are fighting against patriarchy because they want to be accepted by the patriarchs.

Even though these women whine about the effects of patriarchy on them, they prefer to align themselves with men, promoting patriarchy instead of rising up against the status quo.

If you listen to these women talk about how unhappy they are in their relationships and marriages, you will marvel.

You will also wonder why they keep promoting a system that is hurting them and bringing them down because they are women.

You will wonder why these women prefer to cry and whine instead of taking a stand against patriarchy.

1. They see themselves as inferior to men and look down on women who demand to be respected.
2. They believe they are nothing without men and see independent women as outcasts. They even mock them for being independent.
3. They reduce themselves just to make their men feel big. To them that’s the way it has always been and it will remain so even if they are dying inside.
4. They are afraid of of clearly stating their true feelings to their men. They would rather whine later on than actually say what they feel.
5. They are the ones who will accuse widows of killing their husbands and demanding their drink the bath water of their dead husband’s corpse.
6. These women are the ones who carry out female genital mutilation. They know it makes no sense, but they must adhere to patriarchy so as not to be seen as rebels.
7. They will throw out a woman who just lost her husband to the streets with her children without thinking about how they would fare.
8. They are the ones who will keep quiet when an injustice is being committed against a woman because they want to fit into society’s expectations of them.
9. They see nothing wrong in being seen and not heard. They jeer at women who dare to go after their dreams.
10. They are the ones who join men to slut shame a woman. They blame rape and sexual assault victims because they must support their men.

I feel pity for these women. If all the pains and sufferings Nigerian women have to endure in Nigeria doesn’t make them take a stand with their fellow women, I wonder what will.
