Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement: What the Nigerian version would look like

Prince Harry is engaged to Meghan Markle. The beautiful couple were smiling and giggling throughout their appearance as they announced their engagement.

The happy couple made their first appearance in public since the announcement of their impending nuptials, posing for photographs in the Sunken Garden.

The love struck Prince Harry designed Meghan Markle’s engagement ring himself – using two stones which belong to his late mother, Princess Diana. The two outside stones are diamonds from the personal collection of Princess of Wales.

The happy couple, Harry and Meghan

At the centre is a diamond from Botswana, a country that holds special significance for Harry who has visited many times since he was a child.

It is also a place the couple has spent time together over the last year and a half, Kensington Palace said.

The band is made of gold and the ring was made by Cleave and Company, Court Jewellers and Medallists to Her Majesty The Queen.

Gushing about his beautiful fiancee 36-year-old Meghan Markle, 33-year-old Prince Harry said he knew she was the one the very first time they met.
Their long anticipated engagement was announced by the Prince of Wales on Monday morning with a statement saying the couple, who have been dating for 16 months, will marry in the spring next year.

Speaking in the Sunken Garden, Meghan Markle said she is very happy to be engaged to Harry. The Prince on his part is thrilled and over the moon for having the woman he loves by his side.

The couple will live together in Harry’s current home, Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.

Ms Markle will become an HRH and a senior royal after marrying Harry and joining the Windsors.

Meghan Markle is expected to become a duchess – just like Kate Middleton did when she became the Duchess of Cambridge after saying her vows in 2011.

The happy couple

If Meghan Markle was a Nigerian lady who is three years older than her man, tongues will start wagging. People will accuse her of using charm on the young man. They will call her names for daring to date and marry a man three years her junior.

If Meghan Markle were a Nigerian lady, she would be the subject of jokes for Nigerian comedians who would call her a cougar for being with a man three years her junior.

If Meghan Markle were a Nigerian lady, she would have incurred the wrath of some Nigerian ladies who would call her a gold digger for daring to love and be loved by the Prince.

I am happy for this couple. May their union be blissful for life.
