Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic was a guest on TVC, where she talked about her career and evolving through the years.

The 43-years old actress also talked about how she almost got married to someone but for the signs she saw.

Unfazed by societal expectations, Rita insists she will get married at her own time.

The actress said:

“At the end of the day, if I’m going to be doing it, I’ll be doing it for myself and not because society wants me to do it. and I always will still say, I will marry the man of my dreams and not the man that the society dreams for me.

Nollywood actress Rita Dominic reveals why she’s not married yet

Society feels that there is something wrong with you if you are at a certain age and you are not married. What if it’s the society that something is wrong with for thinking that way; for forcing someone to do what they don’t want to do or forcing them to do what they want to do but in their (society’s) own time and not the person’s time.

I almost married someone. We were there. We were at that point but it didn’t work out and I’m happy that it didn’t work out because I saw the signs. You see signs of certain things but you just ignore it and hope the person will change.

Look, a grown man and a grown woman cannot change. You can find a way to live with each other and respect each other’s feelings but to change a grown person… it’s difficult. They have to want to change.”

I agree with the actress, she is a wise woman. As a woman being hounded by society to go and get married, you cannot change an adult.

If a man’s parents couldn’t change him for three decades, how can a woman change him because they are married? Marriage doesn’t change bad behaviour, it amplifies it.

Many women go into bad marriages because they feel obligated to change men simply because society errorneously nudges them on. This is a terrible place to be as a woman .You shouldn’t live to please society.

Get married when you are ready and when you have found the right man, one who complements you and is willing to build his life with you without stifling your greatness.
