You know society acts like being bitter is a very terrible thing but usually bitterness is a reaction to something one is not satisfied with.
When they say “oh Feminists are just bitter women” I own it cause I’m bitter about femicide, rape culture, social injustice against women, Female Genital Mutilation, Gender Based Violence, I’m bitter about how women were murdered in the space of one week and how people are excusing the murder with “oh they were prostitutes”.
If you are a woman living in Nigeria, trust me you are most likely bitter and you don’t even have to be a Feminist to be bitter.
Look at women that go out there to beat their husband’s side chicks, screaming on the top of their voices, threatening to pour acid, waking up every midnight to curse side chicks with breast cancer, you think those women are not bitter?
You think they are happy about having to constantly fight women who their husbands sleep with and not being able to fight the real source of their problem: their husbands?
If you want to know how bitter Nigerian women are, go to a hair salon and say confidently that you are sure of your husband’s fidelity.
Let your mother in law visit and meet your husband washing plates in the kitchen and watch her ooze of bitterness.
Go to Instagram and check Toke Makinwa’s comment section and see how many bitter Nigerian women are there cursing out Toke.
Wear a booty short and walk past your street and the first set of people who will shame you and maybe even scream “ashawo” are women, Nigerian women.
Do you think your booty short is their problem? Of course not. These women are lashing out, they are women who are bitter and are pouring out their bitterness and frustration on other women.
You cannot live in Nigeria as a Nigerian woman and not be bitter, you may channel your bitterness into fighting tooth and nail against every system that seeks to oppress you or channel it into hating on other women, the bitterness and dissatisfaction is there regardless of what you choose to do with it.
