I’m glad my parents didn’t chase me back to my abusive ex husband

0

A woman is grateful that her parents didn’t chase her back to her abusive ex husband or tell her to fix her home because it is the responsibility of a woman to make her marriage work.

This woman believes she made a mistake by marrying her ex but her mistake has made her a strong and positive voice.

Read her inspiring story below:

“I wish that every woman who finds herself in an abusive relationship/marriage would be bold enough to find help.

I’m glad my parents didn’t chase me back to my abusive ex husband

Today, my family returned the dowry they accepted from my ex three and half years ago, as the marriage lasted for about…one minute ?.

Today, I took the whole day sincerely apologizing to my parents because I vividly remembered when my Dad took the traditional marriage list from his kingsmen and hid it for days, all in the bid to convince me not to go ahead, but I was in love, and I was 31, and I was sure I was enough and that nothing would ever go wrong, and so I became very defensive, and shut EVERYONE out.

I am glad my parents didn’t chase me back or asked me to ”go and fix your ‘home’, it is the woman’s responsibility to make a marriage work”.

I am glad they stood by me till the end of it, which by the way is very rare in Nigeria. I am glad my parents are alive.

Do I feel bad about today? Oh hell Yes! Nobody goes into a marriage only to see it come crashing down in days.

The sad part is that even with a neglectful, absent and deadbeat father, the woman who works while maintaining a full schedule as a mother still gets to be blamed.

That’s because I live in a country where a girl child is rather safe inside the womb, and not outside of it. That’s pathetic.

I made a mistake, but my mistake has made me a strong and positive voice.”
