Don’t call me your role model, I will disappoint you with no apologies

Toke Makinwa has confessed that she will disappoint people who call her their role model because she’s still figuring out herself.

“Guys I gotta get this off my chest, piease stop calling me your role model, l am no one’s role model, me sef I am looking for “role model”. The pressure of my kids love you and you are their role model has to stop. Raise your kids to see themselves as a work in progress.

If a part of my life inspires you, by all means use it as a guideline to be better, please I am also trying out this thing called life. I am not perfect, I will disappoint you with no apologies. I disappoint myself too, the difference is I get up and move on.

I accept all my flaws, I am under no pressure to fit into your ideal of what perfection looks like, I am figuring me out too.

Please be inspired but don’t pressure me to be a “role model”, I love my loud, goofy, silly and witty self too much to submit to your standard.

Don’t call me your role model, I will disappoint you says Toke Makinwa

To summarize all I’ve said, I will still fvck up plenty, I will make not so smart decisions, I’m willing to live and learn and not put up a front of perfection. Stop with the pressure, I won’t live up to your expectations and I’m at peace with my pace.

I’ve moved on, you are stuck at my mistake. Rolling on the floor laughing. Live your life, make your rules, do what works for you as long as you ain’t hurting nobody.

Life has no manual, no blueprint, you can’t live through someone else’s existence. Map out your own and be bold to stand for something.

Last night, someone reminded of something I said I would never do, I was talking from a place of lack, I was still growing and had not seen it all. Money came and I did the exact opposite. The conversation humbled me to accept that truly this life, never say never.

Wait till it’s your turn before you say “you will never” or you’ll handle a situation better. Someone is out here stuck on what or who you were many years ago, yet you’ve moved on. Life schools us all different. We are all learning. Give yourself room to reinvent yourself.”

She made sense.
