Cardi B reacts to Akuapem Poloo’s 90-day jail sentence over nude photoshoot with her son

American rapper, Cardi B has reacted to the 90-day jail sentence handed to Ghanaian actress Akuapem Poloo who she infamously described as her “twin sister” during her visit to Ghana in 2019, over a nude photoshoot she engaged in with her underage son.

In a tweet she shared, Cardi B said she believes Akuapem Poloo should not have been imprisoned and that social media probation or community service would have been a better option. She also disclosed that she has seen similar photoshoots in the United States.

The rapper tweeted:

“I seen a lot of Americans do photoshoots like that. Even tho is not my style I don’t think she was going for sexual more going the natural idea. I think jail is a bit harsh. Maybe social media probation or community service.”

Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, known professionally as Cardi B, is an American rapper, songwriter, and television personality. She was born and raised in New York City, she became an Internet celebrity by achieving popularity on Vine and Instagram.

Her mother is from Trinidad while her late dad hails from the Dominican Republic. Being raised by two working parents in Highbridge, South Bronx—a predominantly Latino neighborhood—Cardi B grew up surrounded by multicultural influences.

The famed Cardi B stage name didn’t actually originate from the rapper’s birth name, Belcalis Almanzar. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Cardi B explained that her title is actually short for Bacardi (the rum).

“My sister’s name is Hennessy,” Cardi B explained to the talk show host. “So everyone used to call me Bacardi, and I started calling myself Bacardi,” which eventually was shorted to Cardi B.

Cardi B briefly worked as a stripper following her market manager’s suggestion. The rapper was fired from her position at the Manhattan deli when she was nineteen, and her manager suggested she try a different career path.
“He was like, ‘You’re so pretty, you got a nice body. He told me to go across the street to New York Dolls, the strip club. That’s when I started stripping.”
