Metro FM Suspends Dineo Ranaka Over #UmlandoChallenge

MEDIA personality Dineo Ranaka has reportedly been suspended by South Africa’s Metro FM for misconduct after participating in the trending #UmlandoChallenge.

This comes after Ranaka who hosts ‘The Bridge’ on the station filmed and posted videos of herself dancing on top of the SABC studios office furniture for #UmlandoChallenge.

Actresses Pearl Thusi and Thando Thabethe have publicly shown support for her.

Thabethe and her 947 co-hosts shared their own video of the ‘office’ UmlandoChallenge and Thusi reflected on her decision to leave Metro FM adding that she hopes ‘Dineo is ok’.

Dineo Ranaka was born on December 16 1983. She is a South African radio personality, television presenter, actress, DJ and TV producer.

She started as a radio trainee at 5fm and later joined Yfm as a radio show producer and thereafter a co-host of the then popular afternoon drive radio show called ‘Essential Rush’ with well known Chilli M before taking over the show after Chilli M’s departure.

Her Show ‘Dineo Live on Drive’ , gained her so much popularity and fame in South Africa and made her one of a few leading ladies in Radio in the country.

She co-hosted Club 808 (a music show on e.TV) along with Moeti ‘Mo Flava’ Tsiki and both became favourites as they did prime rime radio and tv at the same time.

One of her highlights was being a presenter on All Access and later hosting a music game show on the etv years after leaving Club808. Other notable television work she did includes appearances in Scandal,  Gaz lam and Gomora.

Her reality show, Dineo’s Diary, is one of the longest running reality shows in South Africa and she wrapped it up at season 5. She played the Role of Joy in the local movie Baby Mamas.

In 2019,  Dineo Ranaka announced her new venture as a House and Hip Hop DJ. In 2020, through her production company she produced Mzali Wami, a drama series which aired on Mzansi Magic and Showmax. She owns cosmetic range LuvDrBeauty which launched 16 December 2020.

Dineo meaning (Gifts) was born in Diepkloof’s Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, in South Africa. Dineo got educated at Unisa. She is the Sister of South African Actress Manaka Ranaka.

Dineo Ranaka has epilepsy. She revealed this in 2017 and said: “It broke my heart,” Dineo says tearfully. “Everyone thinks I’m out of control but the truth is I’ve been diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy.”

She says the chronic condition that affects the nervous system explains every incident that’s been reported in the papers. “For years I had no idea I was sick.
