My father said I would die giving birth because I stood up to him after years of abuse

Many Nigerian fathers verbally, physically and emotionally abuse their children.

They hurt their children with their words and actions but when these children stand up for themselves, they ‘curse’ them.

It is common to see people telling children of abusive fathers not to defend themselves from constant abuses because the perpetrators gave them life and could curse them. These people even quote the Bible to the hurting children for added measure.

It is sad that even the wives of these men tell their children not to stand up to their abusive fathers because God will be angry with them.

They force these children to constantly communicate and have relationships with men who have done nothing but hurt them.

A young lady shared her story on Facebook about her abusive father and how he hurt her and her siblings for years until she stood up to him.

She wrote:

“I got a lot to say, fathers are so abusive and our mothers would silently watch on. My dad would fight with my mom and us all day every day since I was born, we were 4 kids.

Being the first born, I was always caught between their fights trying to separate them, 90% of my time home was me separating their fights.

His fights will escalate down to us and when I tell people one day I stood up for myself and fought him back splitting his lips, actually twice, they think I am mad.

Our home turned into a fight or die zone, the man would get my mom cooking start a fight out of nowhere and even throw the food out, we would sleep hungry.

He would sometimes wave money in front of us and tell us he won’t give it out so that we would sleep hungry and learn that he is the man of the house, if I start I wouldn’t be done today.

He would curse me saying I would die while giving birth, that no man will ever want to touch me and much more.

He came to a point whereby he was scared of me esp when he realized I would fight him back physically so he would do his best to get the most hurtful set of insults.

One that has never really left me is when he would say that I am not his daughter and that my mom was still sleeping around with men while she was still married to him and that’s how she got me.

The old geezer started being respectful towards me when I moved out of that place in 2014 and started making money, he still without shame call to say sorry and ask for money.

I have never gone back home or seen him since 2014, he keeps begging me to go back but…”
