Folasade Ogunsola becomes UNILAG’s first female VC

Folasade Ogunsola, a professor of clinical microbiology, has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Her appointment was announced on Friday October 7, 2022 by the UNILAG governing council.

Folasade Ogunsola is the first female VC of the school, and the 13th vice-chancellor of UNILAG.

She is expected to take over from Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, whose tenure ends on November 11, 2022.

Ogunsola beat 10 professors to emerged the 13th vice chancellor and first female helmsman of the university.
She was Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development and Services) for two tenure under the outgoing VC.

Ogunsola, 64, was at a time the Provost of the College of Medicine in Idi Araba, Lagos and also served as a deputy vice chancellor to Ogundipe.

During the crisis that engulfed the institution about two years ago, when Ogundipe was removed from office by the then Governing Council led by Dr Wale Babalakin, SAN, she served as the acting VC for about three months before the Federal Government reinstated Ogundipe.

She is also an alumnus of UNILAG.

Ogunsola, the daughter of the late eminent geographer, Prof. Akin Mabogunje, has served the university in various capacities.
