We have been friends for 12 years and this past weekend I was her maid of honor. Building up to the event, she did a ton of stuff that was just atrocious.
She kicked a bridesmaid out because she thought the bridesmaid wasn’t happy enough at her bachelorette.
She demanded nobody else who attended the bachelorette post any photos online because she “just wanted to forget it ever happened” and then a week later told us she wanted a “redo”—completely ignoring the time and money we all spent on that trip. Thank goodness for the pandemic her redo didn’t happen.
About a month before her wedding, I mentioned how excited I was to give her the gift I picked out. She told me gifts are for bridal showers and it’s “customary in NYC to give cash that covers your plate”.
When she found out another bridesmaid was making her something because she couldn’t afford a gift, she dogged that girl to me behind her back, saying handmade gifts are for crazy aunts.
She accused a guest at the wedding of stealing her custom embroidered napkins because he joked he wanted them—before even counting to see if any were gone!
She insisted all of the bridal party, even those who are local, stay in one of the most expensive hotels in NYC. When anyone mentioned the cost she reminded us that she was spending (no joke) a million dollars on the wedding.
There is so much more I am forgetting. But I want to know: am I the asshole for not cutting ties sooner? Something else horrible happened but I can’t post here because it’s in violation of the AITA guidelines. I just feel stup#d for being her doormat for so long.

“NTA. You already know you don’t need to remain friends with this person, you’re just needing the validation because you put up with it for so long. So, take this as your validation…it is okay to sever ties. The events surrounding the wedding were just the most recent of incidents that had you questioning your relationship anyway.”
“I’m just here for the Tea ☕️ , and I need to know that last incident. NTA. You didn’t realize how bad she could be until a major stressor happened. You are absolutely in the right, no matter the circumstances. You think the girl she booted is gonna stay in contact? Highly unlikely. Be free, OOP.”
“NTA. No need to surround yourself with that much negativity. Its not good for your mental health or your wallet either. I feel bad for who ever she’s marrying.”
