Sammie Okposo: ‘We know he is with Jesus, singing with angles’ – Family releases official statement

The family of popular Nigerian Gospel singer and Welu Welu crooner, Sammie Okposo has released official statement regarding his sudden death.

It was earlier reported that the music producer slumped on Friday morning and died at the age of 51.

According to the statement by Okposo’s family, they noted that they are consoled because they are convinced that the gospel singer is happily singing with the angels in heaven.

“We are the consoled because we know he is with Jesus singing with the angels.”

The statement added, “We kindly request that the family is allowed to grieve peacefully at this time.”

The popular singer’s death comes months after he was embroiled in an adultery scandal.

Sammie Okposo made headlines early in the year after he publicly apologized to his wife, Ozioma for cheating on her with another lady in the United States.

He admitted cheating on his wife when he travelled to the US in late 2021.

The ‘Wellu Wellu’ crooner, in a lengthy Instagram page, urged Nigerians to pray for him.

The 51-year-old also suspended himself from all ministry work until full restoration as he sought forgiveness from God.

In the apology which was shared on his Instagram page, the singer lamented over the incident which he noted happened in 2021.

The singer further stated that the development has seen him step aside from ministerial work until “full restoration.”

Sammie Okposo released his first album Addicted in 2004. He has collaborated with many other artists in the gospel and soul music fields.

He collaborated with popular gospel singer Marvellous Odiete on “Follow You.”

He has also performed regularly in Africa, Europe, and North America, and curates a series of concerts called SOPP (Sammie Okposo Praise Party).
