A trigger-happy Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) shot dead a Lagos-based female lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, in the Ajah area of the state on Christmas Day.

Barrister Bolanle Raheem and her husband were driving back from Christmas Church Service yesterday when some police officers stopped them at Ajah under Bridge, Lagos.

A police officer asked them to park and they needed the vehicle in front to move so they could park well. Suddenly, the police officer shot at a close range right into Bolanle’s chest. She died on the spot.

On seeing what happened, the remaining police officers on duty there absconded. The police officer is from Ajiwe Police Station, Ajah, Lagos.

The victim was rushed to a hospital but was confirmed dead. According to a colleague, the late Bolanle Raheem was seven months pregnant after trying to conceive for seven years.

One of the late lawyer’s colleagues posted a tribute in her honour on Facebook. He reflected on their last moments together when she demanded they pose for pictures together during an event. He called on Nigerians to demand justice for her.

“NIGERIAN POLICE OFFICER TOOK THE LIFE OF MY PEACEFUL COLLEAGUE IN THE PRESENCE OF HER HUSBAND AND KIDS ON CHRISTMAS DAY IN BROAD DAYLIGHT.

When you were calling me last week, Doctor…let’s snap. I never knew this was going to be our last memories together.

Barrister Bolanle Raheem…. A very gentle and caring colleague of mine was shot and k*lled yesterday by PoliceNG personnel on her way back from ChristmasDay2022 Worship in Ajah Lagos in the presence of her husband. This is a big shock to the immediate family and to the entire Industry.”

“Sometimes, I am really convinced that the Nigerian Police Force is cursed beyond any redemption.

Hearing she was pregnant after waiting for good 7 years makes her death in the way it happened more heart shattering.”

“How can an ASP of police be so careless with the trigger, I hope he doesn’t go unpunished so that some other bad eggs in the police force can learn their lessons.”

“Unfortunately those beast in uniform in the name of Nigeria police have taken away the life of another innocent, breadwinner and potential citizen of nigeria for no just course.

Where is that man that says The Nigeria Police is your friend? People that are meant to protect lives and properties have turn to beasts over night and murdered the lives and stolen the properties they are meant to protect.”
