Actress Amanda Bynes has been placed on psychiatric hold after she was found roaming on the streets of Los Angeles naked and alone on Sunday, March 19.
The Nickelodeon alum stopped a car while completely naked and told the driver she was coming down from a psychotic episode, according to a report by TMZ. After that, she called 911 by herself and was taken to a nearby police station, where a mental health expert determined she needed to be placed on a 5150 psych hold.
The star, who is suffering from bipolar disorder, reportedly remains in a facility’s care. A 5150 hold typically lasts 72 hours but can be extended based on a patient’s need. The episode took place nearly one year after she was freed from her formal eight-year conservatorship.
Prior to this unfortunate incident, Bynes was scheduled to make her first public appearance after eight years at the 90s Comic Con, where she was going to be reunited with Kenan Thompson, Kel Mitchell, Danny Tamberelli, and Lori Beth Denberg of ‘All That’.
Apparently, Bynes was very excited to be reunited with her former co-stars, according to a report by the Daily Mail. But her appearance was canceled at the last moment due to an unknown illness.
After a public nervous breakdown involving a series of strange legal battles dating back to 2012, Bynes was involuntarily committed to a Pasadena psychiatric facility in 2013, marking the beginning of her conservatorship. Bynes’ offenses included two hit-and-run accidents, a DUI, and a 2013 arrest for throwing a bong out a 36th-floor window of her Manhattan apartment. And due to her mental illness, the ‘She’s the Man’ actress was put in a formal conservatorship by her mother Lynn. She was freed from the conservatorship after eight years on March 2022.
Bynes spoke out at the time to thank fans for their “love and support” in a brief Instagram post. In a court hearing, a judge ultimately decided the legal arrangement was no longer required. After the conservatorship’s termination, Bynes’ attorney shared that the former child star, who has also struggled with substance abuse, and mental disorders, was “doing very well” and looking forward to moving in with her ex-fiance, Paul Michael.
