Rihanna has shut down the Met Gala red carpet once again, just months after revealing her second pregnancy during her Halftime performance at the 2023 Super Bowl.
On Monday evening, Rihanna – who is believed to be in her third trimester of pregnancy – arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts for the annual Costume Institute fundraiser.
A former co-chair and sartorial legend at the Gala (let’s not forget that gigantic 16-foot fur-lined embroidered yellow Guo Pei haute couture gown at China: Through the Looking Glass in 2015), Rihanna brought some much-needed drama this year wearing a surreal, floral-appliqué hood and dress by Valentino.
Arriving last on the red carpet, alongside her beau A$AP Rocky, the soon to be mother-of-two leant into the drama of the evening with her hooded jacket, which she took off to reveal a form-fitting white dress and her growing bump.
The multi-hyphenate teased her appearance on Instagram over the weekend, sharing an image of herself in an adorable Chanel ensemble, captioning the snap: ‘not even monday’.
The singer’s Met Gala 2023 moment comes a year to the day she wore a black ruffled haute duvet gown and matching hat, courtesy of Demna at Balenciaga, with her partner and the father to her son, ASAP Rocky, who was similarly robed in a quilt-inspired look by ERL.
In recent years, Met Gala fans have looked to Rihanna to take the fashion stakes to the next level at the event, commonly attended by the likes of Lady Gaga, Blake Lively and Zendaya.
In 2018, the Fenty Beauty entrepreneur graced the red carpet in a John Galliano papal-inspired embellished gown and a Stephen Jones bishop’s hat for the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion And The Catholic Imagination theme.
Two years prior, for the gala’s Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between theme, the singer paid tribute to the forward-thinking Japanese designer in an a punk-inspired petal AW16 dress.
In February, Rihanna celebrated her first live performance since 2017 with a 13-minute-long Super Bowl show, which began with the 34-year-old standing atop a levitating platform wearing a skin-tight red Loewe jumpsuit and bustier for her performance of ‘B*tch Better Have My Money’ to reveal her growing baby bump.
