Adan Canto, Actor on The Cleaning Lady and Designated Survivor, Dead at 42

Actor Adan Canto, best known for his work on The Cleaning Lady and Designated Survivor, has died. He was 42.

Canto died following a private journey with appendiceal cancer, according to The Wrap.

“Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever,” Canto’s reps at UTA, Entertainment360 and Viewpoint said, per Deadline. “He will be greatly missed by so many.”

Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment also shared a statement in the wake of Canto’s death, expressing how they were “heartbroken” to learn of the devastating news.

 “A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and FOX Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in The Following more than a decade ago,” the statement read.

“Most recently, he lit up the screen in The Cleaning Lady with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth and vulnerability,” the statement continued. “This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly.”

Canto’s onscreen credits stretch back to 2009. Some of his most memorable roles included playing Paul on The Following, Sunspot in X-Men Days of Future Past, Rodrigo Lara Bonilla on Narcos and Aaron Shore on Designated Survivor.

Adan Canto also played Arman Morales on Fox’s crime drama, The Cleaning Lady. The series is set to return for season 3 on March 5.

Behind the camera, Canto had directed and produced two short films, Before Tomorrow in 2014 and The Shot in 2020, per his IMDb page.

Prior to his career in Hollywood, Canto was a singer-songwriter in San Antonio, Texas and Mexico City, performing as the lead singer of the band Del Canto, according to The Wrap.

Canto is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two young children, Roman Alder, 3½, and Eve Josephine, 1½.

Canto’s last social media post was made in June 2022 as he celebrated Father’s Day. At the time, he shared a photo of himself posing appearing carefree while posing alongside his wife and their two children.
