Groom’s Mom Wears Princess Gown and Tiara to Son’s Wedding After Invitation Says to ‘Upstage the Bride!’

One mother of the groom went all out for her son’s wedding. On Feb. 12, mom and comedian Jodi Jones — who goes by Jodi White on social media — took to TikTok to share her look for the big day.

“My son is getting married today and the invitation for the dress code says, ‘Upstage the bride,’ ” White explained. “Challenge accepted.”

In the next clip, the Georgia-based comic and mother of three showed off her powder blue ball gown, complete with silver detailing, white gloves and a glittering tiara to round off the look. To date, her TikTok has garnered over two million views.

White’s son Geoffrey Jones and his partner João knew that they would have some big personalities in attendance on their special day, so they decided to give their guests the opportunity to go all out and instructed them to “upstage the bride” on the wedding invitation.

Weddings are serious,” Geoffrey, 36, told TODAY on Tuesday. “This was going to be a room full of people that loved and supported us and we wanted to make it fun. We have a lot of fashionable and kooky friends.”

“We really wanted to give people a chance to show off and celebrate their wedding fantasies,” he continued.

The couple — who told the outlet that they got engaged after meeting three years ago on Tinder — wanted their wedding to be a “family affair.” Hosting the ceremony at their home in Jonesboro, Georgia, they used White’s two chihuahuas, Bella and Bailey, as their bridesmaids. Geoffrey’s sister wore a hot pink pantsuit and tiara to officiate the nuptials.

“My mother-in-law and my grandmothers showed up in tiaras, my niece dressed as Princess Elsa and two of my best friends wore prom dresses with glitter and shawls,” Geoffrey added. “My dream was that our married guests would show up in their wedding dresses.”

Meanwhile, the couple had four outfit changes throughout the day. Their first were gray and blue suits with a floral print before they changed into switched to black suits for the ceremony.

To finish off the evening, the pair chose a pink, satin blazer with a diamond pin and white pants and a glittering sequined poncho.

“Knowing that my son found the love of his life and that they share such a special and fun bond has me overjoyed. I was going to find something understated to wear, but when I saw that dress, I just couldn’t help myself … It was such a fun, beautiful and emotional day for all of us.”
