Doug Emhoff trolled as he leaves Kamala Harris in LA and moves to NY for work
After his wife and former vice president Kamala Harris’ term at the White House came to an end last week, Emhoff landed a job with the New York-based private law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP.
As the law firm, which includes TikTok among its high-profile corporate clients, announced Emhoff’s entry into their top-shot team, several voters were left unimpressed by the lawyer’s decision.
Doug Emhoff’s cushy job may take him away from his home in LA
Doug Emhoff’s job and the seemingly cross-country move came at the heels of Kamala Harris’ failed White House bid in the 2024 election, where she was defeated by the current President Donald Trump.

On Monday, January 27, the law firm shared a statement celebrating Emhoff’s joining the office as a partner, writing he would be working with huge corporations including TikTok on their legal issues and helping them navigate “business challenges.”
The spouse of the former VP, too shared a statement confirming his joining as he admitted to being “thrilled” at the prospect of joining the “talented” team.
According to The US Sun, the former public servant said, “I am delighted to be joining Willkie, where I am looking forward to working alongside trusted and innovative legal counselors.”
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to join this talented and collaborative team,” continued Emhoff.
However, his latest carer move would also mean he would have to split his time between his home in Los Angeles and New York, where the firm is based, reported the outlet.
The latest announcement came just a few days after Harris and her spouse were spotted shopping in a Los Angeles supermarket, where they were photographed carrying plastic bags. The former Veep was also slammed by a section of the voters who called her a “hypocrite” for using plastic after calling for a ban on the same during her 2019 campaign.
Meanwhile, Emhoff’s latest career development also drew flak from a section of enraged netizens who criticized him for helping big corporations through his job, after Harris pledged to help common people in her election campaign.
American commentator and author Matt Stoller even shared the news on his X account, writing, “Kamala Harris’s husband Doug Emhoff just decided he’d like to represent giant private equity firms for the corporate law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher that once employed Robert Bork. Hooray!”

Later in the thread, when someone else asked the reason for his discontent at Emhoff’s new job, the commentator explained, “The implication is that this guy thinks representing private equity firms f***ing over normal people is a good use of his time.”
