There are some things you should avoid before going to bed. After working all day, and running from one place to another, the only thing which can make you rest well is a good sleep.
But good sleep doesn’t mean lying in bed for hours and still feel exhausted after waking up. A good sleep means that even after enjoying your sleep, you will feel recharged to face the next day.
Although there are many things which you can do to get a good, relaxing and deep sleep there are things to avoid before sleep. There are things you should do before bed and there are things to do before bed to sleep better.
What some people don’t know is that there are some habits and foods that hinder them from sleeping well. Here are 10 things to avoid before bed if you want to enjoy a good night rest:
Consuming a big meal before going to bed can disrupt your sleep. It can also lead to gastro-esophageal reflux diseases, weight gain, and other serious health issues.
Even though exercise is necessary for keeping you in shape and good health, doing it just before bed makes you hyper active and this can affect your sleep.
Avoid consuming any type of caffeine before going to bed. Even a small cup of coffee is not good for your sleep time because it contains 80 to 120 milligrams of caffeine.
Drinking before bed may not be a good idea. Don’t consume any type of alcohol before going to bed. Taking a glass of alcohol may sound harmless but it can hinder your night’s rest.
Chocolate contains caffeine and especially dark chocolate. Avoid consuming dark chocolate which might keep your eyes wide open at night. This is one of the things you shouldn’t eat before bed.
When you use a mobile phone before going to bed, the light can disrupt your sleep. Avoid browsing through your phone if you are ready to sleep. This is one of the things to do before bed to help you sleep better.
Smoking at night will make you toss and turn all night. If you think that smoking will help you relax, you are wrong. The nicotine content in cigarettes can trigger insomnia.
Too much water
Drinking water is necessary throughout the day but not at night. Avoid drinking a jug of water before going to sleep. It will result in visiting the toilet often and this will disrupt your sleep.
A nice warm bath can help your body to relax but if you are planning to go to bed after immediately, bear in mind that taking your bath can keep you awake.
Eating wrong foods at night is not good for your night rest. Foods which are high in saturated fat and sugar are a major cause of disrupted sleep.
