Sally Dadzie is an author, blogger and editor at moskedapages.com who is inspired by real life stories and real people. She recently broke OkadaBooks records with sales from her new book ‘The Fourth Finger’. Sally loves to tell stories about romance, love, pain, redemption, faith and heartbreaks.
The mother of two believes that the only way Nigerian women can break through and make a name for themselves is to just damn all limitations and work until they succeed. They can only be held back by themselves because no obstacle can stop an ambitious woman.
In this chat with Feminine World, she reveals how adversity has helped shaped her into the woman she has become today.
As an author, what inspires you?
Life inspires me. Real life stories, real people.
What kind of stories do you love sharing with your audience?
I love sharing stories about true experiences. I love to tell stories about romance, love, pain, redemption, faith and heartbreak.
What life experiences have shaped you into the woman you have become today?
I have learnt from so many experiences life has thrown my way. I see myself as constantly evolving, constantly adjusting to the curves life brings at every turn. Also, having a daughter with special needs took me from what I’d call a basic life to the extraordinary life I’m living right now. If you know what it means to care for a child who is different and has to bear with challenges, you’ll understand that living a normal life is out the window. Adversity as well has shaped me greatly.
What are some of the challenges you face writing and sharing your thoughts?
When it comes to getting my thoughts out, I have no internal challenge. Every obstacle comes from the outside. And this is mostly lack of enough time. I have a job and kids that occupy most of my time these days. Hence, I don’t write as much as I used to.
When you meet a woman for the first time, what attracts you to her?
I am drawn to a woman because of her confidence and one with a healthy sense of self as well as intelligence.
What can you tell us about your latest book, The Fourth Finger?
The Fourth Finger is a book that basically tells the story of a woman who finds herself in an affair with her husband’s best friend and the ensuing drama that follows when they are both exposed. There are other sub-plots in the story that centre on abuse, love, betrayal and yes, lots of sex.
How do you feel about the feed backs you got from The Fourth Finger?
I feel great. I never expected that a lot of people would read it and the feedback would be so awesome. It’s a beautiful feeling.
What should we expect from you in the future?
People should expect more stories and more books.
In what ways can Nigerian women make names for themselves?
Nigerian women can make names for themselves by pursuing their dreams. I believe that God has deposited something in everyone and also put in us the restlessness and the push to see those dreams accomplished.
What usually happens to women is that they dumb down that urge due to societal expectations, religion and cultural reasons.
The only way they can break through and make a name for themselves is to just break through, damn all limitations and work until they succeed. You can only be held back by yourself. No obstacle can stop an ambitious woman. Like a comet she will burn through.
If you could rule the world, what would you change?
I would stamp out inequality of all kinds, racism and discrimination.
