Facebook reminded me today of a post I made about get sudden death six years ago. Reading that post and the comments under it made me sad this morning.
I miss her. I miss her voice. I miss her dressing. I miss her dance steps. The babe was a good stepper. Her unique attires distinguished her from other gospel singers while she was alive. Gosh, my heart hurts!
The first time I heard her hit song Branama, I fell in love with it. I told my friend then that she would go far in the industry because she was unique and energetic. I loved all get songs. I had them on repeat and crammed all of them as much as I could. Laughs.
But when I got news of her death that Friday morning on June 13th 2014, I felt a sharp pain in my heart. I didn’t believe it. I told the person who called me to confirm if it was true that it was probably fake news.
I kept telling myself that it was fake news until I read the news on a reputable media house’s website that the reality hit me. I cried even though I met her only once firing an event in Lagos.
I cried because she was so young. She was doing well in the industry and had her whole life ahead of her. She didn’t deserve to die just like that. I felt her life was cut short in her prime. I was sad for days. She was a good singer and dancer.
The late singer’s name is Irikefee Teddy Esosa. She was in coma in a Los Angeles clinic for about two weeks before she passed on. Her fans, family and colleagues prayed and sent goodwill messages hoping that she would recover but fate played a fast one on everyone.
The Branama crooner collapsed aboard a Chicago-bound flight which forced the plane to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles. It came as a surprise because she didn’t show any sign of discomfort before embarking on the journey but took ill suddenly mid air.
Kefee’s husband as at that time, Teddy Don-Momoh, begged Nigerians to join him in prayers for his wife. She suffered from Deep Vein Thrombosis and sadly didn’t recover. Recall that her first marriage to music producer Alec Godwin crashed years back before she remarried.
Her remains arrived Nigeria on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos at 4PM via a Delta Airline aircraft. The body was received by some of her family members.
May her soul continue to rest in peace. I miss her so much. She was so energetic. Let me go to YouTube and listen to her songs, maybe I will feel better. This life!
