‘My God has done it again’ -Nigerian lesbian announces she is pregnant

A Nigerian lesbian and US-based flight attendant, Silverline Okoro has announced that she is expecting her first child.

Silverline went viral after she posted video of her and Kenyan girlfriend kissing passionately on Instagram and celebrating their third anniversary.

Last year, she revealed that she and her girlfriend are no longer together, adding that the breakup was ‘nasty’.

Two days ago, she took to Instagram to announce she’s expecting a child. The excited mother-to-be shared her baby bump photos. 

She wrote:

“My God has done it again and I am super excited about my bundle of joy loading. Monday milf loading. Blessings loading. I can’t wait to meet you baby.”

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Nigeria face legal and social challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents.

Nigeria does not allow or recognize LGBT rights. There is no legal protection against discrimination in Nigeria—a largely conservative country of more than 200 million people, split between a mainly Muslim north and a largely Christian south.

Very few LGBT persons are open about their orientation, and violence against LGBT people is frequent.

LGBTQ Nigerians are fleeing to countries with progressive law to seek protection.

Nigeria is considered a conservative country. There is demonstrated public hostility towards same-sex relationships. 

In addition to legal punishment, openly homosexual citizens are subject to public aggression and violence.

Some organizations in Nigeria try to assist LGBT persons, such as the Metropolitan Community Churches. Affiliation with these groups may place individuals at risk of violence or abuse.

The U.S. Department of State’s 2011 Human Rights Report found that…

Because of widespread societal taboos against homosexuality, very few persons openly revealed their orientation. The [non-governmental organizations] … Global Rights and The Independent Project provided lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) groups with legal advice and training in advocacy, media responsibility, and HIV/AIDS awareness.
