My Mother-in-Law Must Be Sick Before She Can Stay With My Husband and I – Actress, Angela Eguavoen

Nollywood actress, Angela Eguavoen, has emphatically stated that no relatives will be allowed to live in “her home” including her mother-in-law unless she is sick.

Angela stated this in a recent interview and added that she cannot marry a man who is tied to the apron strings of his mother.

Angela Eguavoen said: “I cannot marry a mummy’s boy. He has to be a man of himself. Of course, I want a man that has someone in his family that he respects and listens to. He has to be someone who keeps to his words, and cannot be easily swayed.”

“No family member will live with me and my husband unless she (mother-in-law) is sick and is in need of attention. I am a busy woman and not the type that would sit at home to take care of anybody. I am of the opinion that in-laws living permanently with a newly-wed couple is not good.”

When it comes to living with your mother-in-law, the best way to make thing work is to make your mother-in-law feel welcome, let her pitch in and help, be there for her, be kind, be supportive, be family. This is what you should when your mother-in-law moves in with you and your husband.

Should a daughter-in-law take care of her mother-in-law? Drive home the fact that you love your significant other and are willing to help their family, but reiterate that you are not spearheading their parents’ care. There’s no reason why you should give up your life to care for anyone, including your in-laws, regardless of whether you like them.

Meeting her expectations is challenging (and oftentimes impossible), as she may believe that no one can do things correctly except her. An overbearing mother-in-law may also try to dominate their own child’s life by pushing their partner “out of the way.” This is why it is difficult to live with mother-in-law.
