Jada Pinkett Smith Says Will Smith Sl@pping Chris Rock Saved Their Marriage
Jada Pinkett-Smith has admitted she will never leave Will Smith despite the couple living in separate homes.
In fact, she even admitted that the infamous Oscar’s sl@p “saved [her] marriage.” All it took was a little bit of public scandal to fix their marriage and their relationship.
“I nearly didn’t even attend the Oscars that year, but I’m glad I did,” adding, “I call it the ‘holy slap’ now because so many positive things came after it,” the actress told the Daily Mail.
Will Smith had been nominated in the Best Actor category, which he won for his role as King Richard. Jada and Will were seated in the front row when comedian and host Chris Rock made a joke about Jada’s shaven head, which is a result of a medical condition called alopecia.
Will seemed to laugh it off at first until he saw Jada roll her eyes at the joke. Will then seemingly got protective over his wife as he stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock across the face while screaming, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f—— mouth!”
“That moment of the s— hitting the fan is when you see where you really are,” she added. “After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that sl@p for me to see I will never leave him. Who knows where our relationship would be if that hadn’t happened?”
However, at the time of the Oscars sl@p, despite Will calling Jada his “wife”, it was revealed that the two had been separated for quite some time. In fact, the two had been split up for six years before the Oscars event.
Jada recently disclosed in her newly released memoir that she and Will had been separated since 2016. But it’s possible they’re back on again.
Although the couple are now working on their relationship, Jada recently moved out of their Calabasas mansion and she bought a house nearby.
Will Smith was also just seen with a woman who is not Jada Pinkett Smith but looked very similar while attending a high-profile event in Miami.
Despite their ongoing troubles, Jada has admitted that she will never leave her husband, and the two plan to write a book together.
“Will and I plan [to write] a book together called ‘Don’t Try This at Home’,” she said while laughing. “He has been on a journey. I have been on a journey. We want to write something where he puts the male side, I put the woman’s side and then these universal issues are resolved.”
