Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock told her she’s not ‘sexy’ like Rihanna to be on ‘The Voice’

This revelation came to light during the testimony given by Clarkson to a California labor commissioner in 2023 as part of a financial investigation into Blackstock’s handling of her finances.

According to court documents obtained by the Post, Clarkson asserted that Blackstock had informed her she wouldn’t be suitable as a ‘Voice’ coach due to a perceived lack of sex appeal.

She reportedly said Blackstock told her NBC was “looking for a more s€x symbol type.”

Allegedly, he suggested that NBC was seeking a more glamorous and s£x-symbol-like figure. To emphasize his point, Blackstock allegedly compared Clarkson to Rihanna, asserting that she didn’t resemble the pop star and citing this as a reason for her unsuitability for the coaching role.

Kelly Clarkson had expressed her desire to join ‘The Voice’ as a judge, but Blackstock reportedly opposed the idea, contending that she wasn’t visually appealing enough for television. He also claimed that the network was looking to sign a Black star, asserting that Clarkson and existing judge Blake Shelton were too similar.

Despite these alleged rejections, Clarkson eventually joined ‘The Voice’ in 2018 and continued for several seasons.

During Blackstock’s testimony, he claimed credit for securing Clarkson the job in 2017 by threatening NBC that she would return to ‘American Idol’ if they didn’t sign her. He reportedly insisted that it would cost “Blake money” to bring her on board.

This revelation follows a recent finding by the California labor commissioner that Blackstock overcharged Clarkson during their professional relationship, leading to a $2.6 million repayment owed to her, according to TMZ.

After nearly seven years of marriage, Clarkson filed for divorce on June 4, 2020, citing irreconcilable differences.
