Vivica A. Fox can’t relate to Taraji P. Henson‘s work woes, the Booty Call actress shared with TMZ when asked her thoughts on Henson’s complaints of unfair pay in Hollywood for people — especially women — of colour.
“To each [their] own. I am very happy, very blessed. To each [their] own,” she began. “I didn’t have that experience, so…you know. But to get your piece out is important. I totally understand that. And I love my girls for looking out for each other. But…I’m good.”
The “girls” Fox is likely referring to are women like Robin Thede, Gabrielle Union and Keke Palmer, who’ve all spoken up in support of Henson. Fox made it clear, however, that she is not in that number.
Henson first voiced her frustrations during a sit-down with Gayle King, where she emotionally recalled being paid inadequately for most of her career.
“I’m just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do [and] getting paid a fraction of the cost,” Henson shared King. “I’m tired of hearing my sisters say the same thing over and over. You get tired. I hear people go, ‘You work a lot.’
Well, I have to. The math ain’t math-ing. When you start working a lot, you have a team. Big bills come with what we do. We don’t do this alone. It’s a whole team behind us. They have to get paid.”
She’s also since shared that she had to “fight” for basic accommodations while filming The Color Purple, including having food on set and providing the cast with drivers after initially being told they’d have to use rental cars.
