In court documents obtained by PEOPLE on Monday, June 10, Chassagne lists their date of marriage as June 25, 2023. The date of separation is listed as June 1, 2024.
Chassagne and Lanez, 31, (whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson) are also parents to 7-year-old son, Kai’lon, of whom she is seeking legal and physical custody.
Chassagne cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce filing.
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion (whose real name is Megan Pete) in the feet in the summer of 2020 in the Hollywood Hills.
Last August, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón released a statement regarding the Canadian rapper’s prison sentence, saying, “Over the past three years, Mr. Peterson has engaged in a pattern of conduct that was intended to intimidate Ms. Pete and silence her truths from being heard.”
Gascón commended the Grammy winner “for her incredible bravery and vulnerability as she underwent months of probing investigation and court appearances where she had to relive her trauma, and the public scrutiny that followed.”
At the time, Megan, 29, shared a statement read by Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta.
“I struggle with being present. After everything that occurred I cannot bring myself back to being in the same room with Tory,” the Houston native wrote in part. “I’ve been tormented and terrorized.”
According to Megan, Lanez “paid bloggers to disseminate false information, he treated my trauma like a joke when I could’ve been dead.”
“He blamed the system, he blamed the press, and as of late he is using his childhood trauma to justify his actions.”
The incident happened following a dispute involving Lanez, Megan and her former assistant and ex-friend Kelsey Harris, after the three left a pool party held at Kylie Jenner‘s Los Angeles-area home on July 12, 2020.
In September 2023, Lanez was denied bail by Judge David Herriford, who referred to the “violent felony” the rapper was convicted of and his “history of violating court orders.”
Herriford also brought up Lanez’s protective orders he previously violated and said he was a deportation risk as he’s a Canadian citizen.
In Chassagne’s filing, she does not request spousal support, but instead reserves for future determination at the discretion of the court.
“No such assets or debts” were listed for the former couple regarding separate property nor quasi-community property.
