Woman who sat for exam while heavily pregnant becomes first and only graduate with First Class in her department’s history in UNICAL

Colette Offiong Bassey, who sat for her final exams while pregnant and gave birth three days after her exams, has become the first person to ever graduate with a first class from the Linguistics and Communications Studies in University of Calabar (UNICAL).

She took to Instagram to share her testimony following her convocation ceremony.

Colette Offiong Bassey revealed that it wasn’t easy as she wrote her exams just days before her due date, yet she not only succeeded, but also set a record in the process.

In University of Calabar Department of Linguistics and Communications Studies’ 44 years history, no one has ever graduated with a First Class in the department, until Colette did it while heavily pregnant.

Colette Offiong Bassey wrote:

I remember finishing exams on a certain Wednesday and giving birth that Saturday. It was one hell of a ride but it ended in praise.

After God, my gratitude goes to my husband who pushed me hard and gave me great support. I have a great support system, the rest of family included. Thank you.

Thank you everyone. I’m super thankful for the show of love.

It’s never too late to achieve excellence, you just have to start. Take the step, whatever it is. The journey to greatness goes on.

UNICAL 34th CONVOCATION

CEREMONY: Dept of Linguistics And Nigerian Languages, Produces First Ever First Class Graduate In 44 Years.

The 2018/2019 Convocation Ceremony and 34 in the series of the University of Calabar slated for 27th of March 2021 will produced first ever in history of first class student from the department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages known before as Linguistics and Communication Studies.

The first class student, Bassey Colette Offiong with reg no: 15/033144021 emerged as the only first class student from Linguistics and Nigerian Languages in the 2018/2019 academic session and according to source the first ever in the history of department dated back to 1977.
