Popular Nigerian singer, Inetimi Timaya Odon, professionally known as Timaya during a recent interview disclosed that he has no intention of thinking about marriage not to talk of getting married in his life.
Timaya, a proud father of four children who were birthed by three different baby mamas made this known while explaining why marriages nowadays don’t last long compared to that of our parents.
According to Timaya, marriages these days have not been successful because most young people that are getting married in this era do not even know why they need to get married.
Speaking further, the “Cold Outside” crooner stated that marriage is beautiful but most people make it look bad as the divorce rate of marriages have been on the surge in the country.
Timaya admitted that most people that entered marriage do not know that it comes responsibilities and by extension it resulted into a dead end as they do not fully understand it before they tied the knot.
If it were a woman who made this declaration about marriage and not getting married, Nigerians would have ro@sted her alive.
In this part of the world, women are expected to crave and aspire marriage. Women are expected to do anything within their power to get husbands even if these men are irresponsible.
If a woman came out to say she won’t ever get married because some people are making a mess of the marriage institution or because people are getting divorced everyday, she would have been called many unprintable names.
It’s sad that there are different standards set for men and women in this country when it comes to aspiring marriage.
Women don’t have the right not to want marriage but men can give different excuses about why they won’t get married and society will look the other way.
