Man hangs himself after his 18-year-old wife refused to have sex with him

A tragic incident occurred at Somabula in Zimbabwe on Tuesday last week, as a 21-year-old Gweru man committed suicide by hanging after he was reportedly denied conjugal rights by his 18-year-old wife.

Councillor Adam Shava identified the now-deceased man as Dumisani Matonsi, and further disclosed that he walked out of his bedroom after a misunderstanding ensued between him and his wife over sex.

It was gathered that about an hour later, the wife Sarah Mazambatate woke to check up on him, only to find him hanging on a Msasa tree branch within the yard.

The Herald reported that the case was then reported to Gweru Rural Police Station under sudden death report RBR number 4703082.

My Take:

Why would a man kill himself because his wife refused to have sex with him? Doesn’t he have the option of dissolving the marriage and moving on with his life?

Many adult men under 60 think about sex at least once a day but that doesn’t mean one should kill himself because of sex. Only about one-quarter of women say they think about sex frequently. Men fantasize about sex twice as often.

Men want sex more often than women at the start of a relationship, in the middle of it, and after many years of it. Men also say they want more sex partners in their lifetime, and are more interested in casual sex.

Men love to have sex almost all the time unlike women who value emotional connection. That doesn’t mean men don’t seek intimacy, love, and connection in a relationship, just as women do. They just view the role of sex differently.

Women want to talk first, connect first, then have sex. For men, sex is the connection. Sex is the language men use to express their tender loving vulnerable side. It is their language of intimacy.
