A Nigerian woman has reportedly ended her eight-year marriage to her husband because he addressed her by his ex-girlfriend’s name.

Twitter user, @Oye440, who made this disclosure on the micro-blogging platform, said his aunt was the one who left her husband because of what he did.

He claims that his aunt’s husband called her by the name of his ex-girlfriend, leading to the end of their eight-year marriage.

Although he didn’t give many details about what transpired, his tweet read:

“My auntie just ended her marriage of 8 years because her husband called her by his ex girlfriend’s name.”

Some women divorce their husbands because of a lack of love and affection. Can’t remember the last time you said “I love you” or held your partner’s hand? In a survey of 2,371 divorcees, nearly half blamed a lack of love and intimacy, making it the most common reason for ending a marriage, according to a 2020 study in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy.

There are different causes like emotional neglect, spouse, mental compatibility issues, and even other issues that cause such breakups.

While infidelity might sometimes be an effective way to save some marriages, it can also be responsible for breaking up many others. In fact, 29.2 per cent of the women polled stated adultery as the reason for leaving their marriages.’

An impressive 10.9 per cent of the respondents cited constant quarreling, bickering and arguing as a key reason to break up with their husbands whereas a lack of intimacy comes in at number four.

Most women want excitement in the bedroom and an active sex life – if they’re not getting this at home, they will seek it elsewhere and it can lead to the eventual breakdown of their marriage.

‘Lack of intimacy can destroy a marriage and result in couples leading completely separate lives. We find many of our female and male users on sign up exactly because of this sexless situation within their couple,’ Mr Vedal explained.

Coming in at number five with 5.6 per cent of the responses is mental illness as a reason for divorce.

Living with a partner with mental health issues can be a challenge and often, despite their best efforts, the marriage will crumble under the strain.
