A 23-year-old Nigerian lady and mother of one, Courage Okeola, has sought for advice from social media users

According to Courage, her parents did not approve of the father of her child because he’s a mechanic and not as wealthy as they want.

The young woman said her man’s family wants them to get married, but her parents won’t give their consent, she revealed this in a Facebook group.

In her words:

“Pls no insults, I need your advice. I am in a relationship now for two years and I have given birth but still, my parents wants me to leave my child for my man and come back to them simply because my man is a mechanic and he is not rich as they want.

Now, my man’s family want to marry me officially but my parents would not give their consent and I am scared I might lose him and I love him. Please, what should I do?”

Some Nigerians have offered their advice:

Prisca said: “What they see sitting as elders, you as a child standing will never see it.E get why. You have to listen to your parents and don’t marry that man.”

Ijeoma said: “I advise you to go back to school, get an education and improve your life instead of tying yourself down with a man your parents don’t approve of. Having a child with a man doesn’t mean you must marry him. Your parents are right. Love is not enough.”

Barnabas said: “If this is what you want to do, calmly beg your parents to give you their blessings because you need it. Appeal to them and pray too. God may he using your parents to save you from something bad.

Doris: “At your age, instead of you to focus on living your life and making money, you are talking nonsense about love and marrying a mechanic.”
